FELLOS & ANDROS

Discreetly positioned at the back of its own field, Fellos Beach Retreat enjoys both privacy and instant access to the beach. Ten minutes walk away, a pretty taverna known as “Andreas’s” offers traditional greek dining under a canopy of grape vines. A short drive over the hill (approximately 15 minutes by car), the local town of Gavrio is pleasant and convenient for shopping, eating, and enjoying local café life. Eight kilometers beyond Gavrio, the charming fishing town of Batsi has a slightly busier vibe, especially at night in high season when the bars and restaurants fill up.
Andros itself is a uniquely beautiful island: the plentiful natural water supply has given it verdant, flower-filled valleys nestled between steep hillsides dotted with Byzantine and Venetian ruins. The beaches (our favourites include Vitali, Zorkos and Achla) are some of if not the best in the Cyclades, and there are plenty of cultural attractions including the Goulandris Museum of Contemporary Art in Hora; the Archaeological Museum of Andros, also in Hora; the Kydonieos Institute for exhibitions and concerts (Hora); the Museum of Paleopolis; plus stunning monasteries such as Panachrantos and Zoodochos Pighi. For something more unusual, visit the caves of Foros with their extraordinary stalacmites and stalactites, or take to the hills for lovely walks overlooking the Aegean sea.
In its own, understated way, Andros really does have something for everyone and we hope you have a wonderful holiday on this special island.
